How to Care For Your Candles

Scented candles can add a cozy and welcoming ambiance to any space, but in order to keep them burning brightly and smelling great, proper care and maintenance is key. Here are some helpful tips and tricks on how to care for your scented candles and get the most out of them.

  1. Trim the wick

Before lighting your scented candle, it's important to trim the wick to approximately 1/4 inch. This will prevent the flame from getting too large and potentially causing the candle to burn unevenly or smoke. You can use scissors or a wick trimmer to trim the wick.

  1. Burn the candle for the appropriate amount of time

The first time you light your scented candle, allow it to burn until the wax has melted all the way to the edges of the jar. This will prevent the candle from tunneling, which is when the wax burns only in the center of the jar, leaving a ring of unused wax around the edges. Subsequently, it's best to burn your candle for no more than four hours at a time, to prevent the wick from getting too hot and the candle from burning too quickly.

  1. Keep the candle away from drafts

Drafts from open windows or doors can cause the flame of your scented candle to flicker and burn unevenly. This can also cause the candle to burn too quickly. To prevent this, keep your candle away from drafts and in a stable, flat location.
